Abstract

The research work focuses on the issues faced by teachers along with some research-based strategies to assist all students in regular classes to develop literacy. It is based on scholarship and research findings presented in a recent book edited by the author. In this short paper, only some aspects can be covered. This encompasses the changes in requirements to be literate in today's society, literacy demands across the curriculum and how teachers may support students’ literacy development including those students with learning difficulties and disadvantage. Teacher professional learning and effectiveness are key as are attitudes towards inclusion and knowledge of how to teach literacy inclusively.
