Abstract

The present research aimed to go beyond the mere description of psychological or physiological aspects and take an educational position about the scholar inclusion of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) in the context of Portuguese and European regulations. The study carried out confirmed what was found in the bibliography about characteristics of children with this syndrome. But it appears that the diagnosis and care are very difficult to establish and to deal with, resulting in some susceptibility and frailties, mainly due to the lack of studies in Portugal. Interviews with teachers combine important elements for the development of more effective teaching strategies. This research therefore proposes to draw attention to the need of our society to look at children and young people with SEN and to promote a true social inclusion.
