Abstract

The Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education established the right of everyone to basic education. The current National Education Plan of Brazil (2014-2024) establishes goals to universalization of the basic education for the population in the compulsory school age group from 4 to 17 years of age. The major challenge for achieving these goals lies in the provision of education in rural areas, where educational indicators are lower. This paper presents an exploratory study on the conditions of educational provision in rural areas of Brazil, in order to discuss the guarantee of the right to education of the different peoples living in rural areas of Brazil. The study uses descriptive statistics drawn from the School Census and discusses aspects of the right to education of people living in the areas, based on educational legislation.
