Abstract

This paper examines the role the ‘White academic’ has in challenging institutional racism and promoting intersectional diversity within their HEIs. It considers how privileges can be used to benefit social change and help assist in the dismantling of Eurocentric curriculums, through facilitation and allyship. This paper has a foundation in the work of Shades of Noir, a social justice platform that specialises in education reform. It is also self-reflection of the Authors own Whiteness and their role with in pedagogies of social justice, with a focus on what has hindered their engaging and what has challenged them to learn.
