Abstract

The Russian Federation has faced the problem of an acute shortage of professionals, especially in the system of higher education. Over the last years, along with the growing importance of universities and the changing approaches to managing them, there are an increasing number of educational programs for university top management. This article presents the research results of the specifics of the educational programs implementation for leaders of top-universities in Russia. Key competencies required for the university leaders were identified. The key principles of training leaders of higher educational institutions are outlined. The author presented the results of a survey of graduates of the educational programs for universities leaders. These results confirmed the effectiveness of the approach which was using during the university leaders’ educational programs organized by the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO.
