Abstract

The purpose of this presentation is to research the different ways to support English language learners. English language learners are disadvantaged when identified with a learning disability due to limited English. The methods used to identify students need to be researched to make sure students are being diagnosed with the proper disability and not because of their lack of exposure. There are different ways to support these students in the classroom by using instructional strategies based on their cognitive disabilities and language acquisition. They thrive in a learning environment where they are comfortable, have a background of academic skills, and the appropriate methods to develop academic content. Educators must consider many factors of the student to provide the necessary support.
