Abstract

Teaching online is a developed skill. There are a number of published best practices for online teaching. A short summary of the current research on best practices for online teaching is presented. Specifically, I address National Louis University’s (NLU’s) 10 Principles of Online Teaching, developed in an effort to “create a signature educational experience in a safe and intellectually stimulating environment.” These guidelines developed for faculty supports NLU’s commitment to students in creating a more standardized experience across courses, which will hopefully create a higher level of student learning. Each principle is further discussed, and several practical applications are provided that support each principle. These practical applications can be easily implemented into anyone’s online teaching foray.
