Abstract

In this research work the rationale for an androgogical approach to Irish Prison Officer education is presented. Following programme research in 2019, student Recruit Prison Officers articulated a desire for alternatives to written assessment on their programme of study, the Higher Certificate in Custodial Care. With the application of principles of Universal Design for Learning [1] and Restorative Practice [2], role-play was introduced as a mode of assessment. The research is on-going and student feedback on the assessment and feedback experience will be presented in 2023.
