Abstract

This presentation will discuss the ongoing challenges of youth mental health and wellness. We explore how strengths-based programs and positive psychology in education, move youth from at-risk to at-potential – by building their internal strengths, resilience, capacity to flourish, life skills and enhancing their well-being. The strengths-based approach embraces a vision of how things might be by aligning youths’ current strengths with their passions and innate desire to be successful. These programs provide an early support for youth to be able to navigate a world filled with risk and challenges, by using their unique gifts and abilities to build themselves and the world around them. Attendees will learn about the Heroes® program, an evidence-based process that elevates the mental well-being of youth and equips them with the tools necessary to live with excellence. The Heroes® program reflects the belief that transformative and positive capacity building in youth, occurs when the four dimensions of learning (feeling/thought/behavior/conviction) are experienced.
