Abstract

Bored pile-pile cap interaction with different soil moduli (Es = 5 and 50 MPa) and length to diameter (L/D) pile ratios of 10, 20, and 33 was investigated under lateral loading (PL) using 3D finite element analysis and Mohr coulomb failure criterion to model the sand material around the pile. The results of the analysis indicate that the pile lateral deformation characteristics and contact pressure (Pc) are strongly affected by Es and L/D ratio. Under PL loading, as Es and L/D increase, the pile flexibility increases as the pile fixation depth increases with a concertation of Pc at the top portion of the pile. Besides that, it was observed that pile lateral deformation behavior with depth is consistent with the observed behavior of Pc at the same depth.
