Abstract

The forest industry is one of the leading manufacturing sectors in the world. Nowadays wood residues from the wood processing industry generally have no clear application. Due to the nature of the raw material, it was inevitable that it would produce residue. However, it was possible to manage this properly as biomass supply. The study focuses on Asturias due to its important energy and forest industries. This work aims to improve the knowledge in the existing methods and to assess the development of new wood waste to a sustainable energy industry for thermal generation in accordance with environmental and sustainable requirements. Asturian wood processing industry could generate about 27 kt/year of profitable wooden residue for thermal systems.
