Abstract

Attacks on the physical system integrity, such as a change in control and/or design parameters, result in a change of the system’s dynamical property that may lead to undesirable behavior, potentially harmful to the system. The proposed technique uses a hidden monitoring signal that works on a live system without affecting the regular operation. The method does not require an accurate system model and often suffices with frequency response information at some selected frequencies. We have also shown that a specific type of attack on signals/data can be modeled as a physical system attack, and therefore, the technique can be used. Multiple examples have demonstrated the effectiveness of the method.
