Abstract

Modern fairytales may seem different from the ones we grew up with. The princess and the prince replaced ravens and doves with instant messaging and phone texts, and the whole picture may be more pixelized than ever. Romantic relationships, especially among youth, often begin online through various social and communication platforms (Kwok & Wescott, 2020). In the current highly digitalized world, some specific antisocial dating behaviors caught the researchers’ attention concerning the complex ways romantic (digital) relationships are further consumed (or not) in the real world (i.e., breadcrumbing) or ended (i.e., ghosting) (Willis et al., 2023). The present talk is focused on breadcrumbing, ghosting, and other technology-mediated behaviors among young adults (e.g., phubbing).
