Abstract

Our planet faces numerous environmental threats and education has a crucial role to play in helping to address, minimize and mitigate these. However, teacher education programmes in Canada have generally done a poor job of preparing pre-service teachers for work in this area. This paper reviews the strategies employed by a group of teacher educators in Canada who have sought to address the shortfall in environmental and sustainability education in preservice teacher education. Their work has created new research opportunities and by sharing success stories and advocating for change, significant progress has been made in recent years.
