Abstract

As global concepts and aspirations have internalized in the countries, national, regional and local initiatives have become relevant in the maintenance and expansion of production chains, as well as their strategic insertion within what is understood as "global". Brazilian Association of Leather, Footwear and Artefacts Components Companies (ASSINTECAL), with Brazilian Association of Footwear Industries (ABICALÇADOS), launched the Sustainable Origin Program on the Brazilian market in 2013. Its objective is to certify Brazilian companies that belongs to the footwear productive chain, which incorporate sustainability in their production processes. The process for certification takes place according to indicators distributed in these four pillars: economic, environmental, social and cultural. Sensitize the inputs manufacturers of this new reality by making them respond with products that match the new context is the focus. Altogether, 52 indicators as they are reached, allow the company to obtain the Sustainable Origin label. Currently, 142 companies participate in the program, 16 of them are footwear and 112 are footwear inputs and components manufacturers, an international precursor to the footwear industry.
