Abstract

Integrating technology tools is an emerging approach for assisting in delivery of content and for conducting assessments. Lectures are frequently faced with challenges of collecting realtime formative assessment data quickly from students. There are systems that are designed to support them but are costly and take much space. An identified low-cost approach is the use of plickers. Plickers is a free online software that allows lecturers to gather real-time formative and summative assessments data without the need of any hardware devices for the students. It requires printed cards and a digital device such as phone or tablet to scan the cards to record the responses. Plickers as an emerging approach, can support appropriate assessment and feedback for students by permitting facilitate asking of questions and responses to during lecturers. This paper focuses on the introduction of plickers at one University of Technology in Free State Province to promote to assist lecturers to gather assessment data quickly.
