Abstract

This paper focuses on examining academic integrity and proffering solutions to the ethical issue in education. Academic integrity connotes ethical principles and values that support pursuit of knowledge. Such often comprise observable dispositions of truthfulness, equity, and responsibility scholastic work. Giving credit to whom it is due to is an example of academic integrity, promoting honesty, and intellectual property rights in teaching, research, and assessment. This includes addressing issues of plagiarism, cheating, and ensuring fair evaluation and grading practices. It also addresses copyrights, infringements and authorship right. The study employed the use of qualitative data collection for this research. Nigeria is used as a case study for this research so as to gain a deeper insight on its ethical approach on global issue in education. The qualitative data is analysed thematically to identify strategies that help defeat ethical issues in education. The findings of the study showed that many scholars are not educated to uphold academic integrity. Therefore, there is urgent need for more enlightenment or advocacy on academic integrity by education stakeholders and proper sanctions for violators of the code and not just dismissal from office as the offender has violated the confidence reposed in him. academic ethics and integrity frowns at vehemently at any form of cheating or academic dishonesty.
