Abstract

One of the preeminent challenges faculty grapple with is building rapport and engaging fully and meaningfully with the newest generation of learners entering our colleges and universities – Generation Z. These learners, who represent the greatest and most profound generational shift in post-secondary education, test and challenge us, yet also create a golden opportunity for us to rejuvenate engagementbuilding in our classrooms. In this interactive session, we explore the distinguishing attributes of Generation Z learners and how we can harness our own leadership capabilities to build relationships and sustain engagement with our new generation learners. Framing our discussion is the facilitator’s research on the perceptions and experiences of Generation Z learners. Time will be allocated in the session to dialogue about the application of this research to your own practice. It is anticipated you will leave the session with new approaches for engaging with Generation Z learners and the inspiration to continue stretching your engagementbuilding skills in new directions.
