Abstract

There have been many recent changes to the way we run our schools, and because of these changes we are losing our teachers. Many teachers find themselves working longer hours with larger classes, new curriculum and not receiving the support necessary for personal development and growth, and it is not difficult to understand this because it is impossible to ignore stress signs as the numbers of teachers dwindles. Teachers are working up to 60 hours per week, with a vast majority claiming this is having a negative effect on their personal lives. This is having a huge effect on their sleep, and on mental health. If we are to expect more from teachers, we must invest more in their mental health and personal well-being.
