Abstract

Established in 1968, the Diploma Programme (DP) was the first program offered by the International Baccalaureate (IB) and is presently
taught to students aged 16 – 19. It was created by teachers from the International School of Geneva, with assistance from several other international schools. The DP is inquiry-based and studentcentered, and it focuses on the intellectual and personal development of the individual. It is designed to facilitate geographic and cultural mobility and to promote multilingualism and intercultural understanding. In addition to the DP, the IB offers three other curriculum programmes: Primary Years, Middle Years, and Career-related. At present, IB programs are offered to over 1.2 million students in nearly 4,700 schools in more than 150 countries worldwide.
