Abstract

This presentation reviews practical strategies to improve self-regulation through an exercise-based approach. We consider the influence of the proprioceptive and vestibular systems on self-regulation. Proprioception influences mental health by enhancing body awareness and spatial orientation, improving overall physical coordination, reducing anxiety and stress, and contributing to a greater sense of control and well-being. Proper vestibular function helps regulate the body’s stress response by stabilizing sensory input and minimizing sensory overload, which can reduce anxiety. Examining field study video clips featuring neurodivergent learners, we discuss actionable strategies that maximize proprioceptive and vestibular input to improve self-regulation.
