Abstract

This paper aims to test the effectiveness of a playbased intervention for increasing initiation episodes and joint attention responses of autistic preschoolers. We used a single case experiment design, and we enrolled 3 autistic children aged between 3 and 4 years old to test our hypothesis. Data was collectedwith an observational grid both in baseline and intervention phase, that measured the frequency of responses and joint attention initiations of the children. The interventions were based on integrating functional play sessions with a preestablished set of toys. The results showed that all the three children improved their responses and JA initiations during the intervention phase.
