Abstract

In this study special education teachers in one American state are contacted to determine if they are still teaching in the field or the reasons, they have left the profession. School districts across the United States have found it increasingly difficult to fill special education teaching positions, particularly those districts in rural areas of the country. Understanding the reasons why teachers leave can lead to districts providing better support for those teachers.
