Abstract

This paper conducted a case study about a gifted and talented adolescent in a teenage achievement series from a gifted and talented school in Hong Kong. It argues that gratitude might be a determining personal trait that differentiates the long-term talent development and achievement of gifted and talented students. The case study examined the element of gratitude as a personal trait in a gifted/talented student case; it evaluated the importance of gratitude in the student’s achievement/talent development process. The study suggests to examine the element of gratitude in giftedness or talent education. By reinforcing the role of gratitude as a state and trait to be nurtured in curriculum, especially the one in giftedness or talent education, the paper fosters the message and drives home the significance that gratitude is more a science to be taught and learnt in curriculum than an emotion or expression conveyed by the benefactors or mentioned by the educators or parents.
