Abstract

The Contemporary educational systems with a focus on inclusivity emphasize providing a high quality education for all students, including those needing specialized educational support. This paper highlights the importance of teaching students, especially those with special educational needs, to read proficiently. The study stressed the importance of training special education teachers in implementing evidence-based reading interventions to enhance student outcomes. A total of 38 special education teachers were virtually trained to implement Phonics Instruction Strategies. Pre and post surveys were conducted, the online training session helped to gain insights regarding their knowledge and willingness to use the strategies when working with students with intellectual disabilities. Results showed a high level of acceptance among participants as well as willingness to consider implementation in the future. Limitations, implications, and future directions are also discussed.
