Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the continual quality improvement (CQI) in teaching, learning, and assessment aspects of the Engineers in Society (EIS) course integrating a pedagogy known as SULAM (Service-Learning Malaysia University for Society) for an engineering program in Malaysia. A mixed-method approach consisting of a survey questionnaire and document analysis was used. Findings indicate improvements in program outcome 6 (PO6 – Engineers and Society) and program outcome 8 (PO8 -Ethics & Professional Conducts) over semesters, highlighting the effectiveness of course assessmenttool modification. However, there is a need for furtherimprovement in the assessment tools, particularly forPO8. The skewed distribution of grades towards Asuggests that rubrics need further refinement foraccurate measurement. The study emphasizes theimportance of CQI in teaching, learning, andassessment to ensure students receive the besteducation and achieve the intended learningoutcomes. Overall, the study provides valuableinsights into the challenges and opportunities in theeducation system and emphasizes the importance ofcontinuous quality improvement to ensure thatstudents are well-equipped to become responsiblepublic intellectuals capable of addressing society’schallenges.
