Abstract

This research explores the need for early and regular inclusion of cybersecurity concepts integrated into existing subjects and levels, throughout compulsory education. The research identifies existing gaps in teacher preparedness and self-efficacy which inhibit the ability to effectively weave essential cybersecurity life skills into existing lesson plans and curricula. We offer a solution for scaffolding teachers through the process of becoming acclimated to cybersecurity concepts and skills. Special attention is given to the gaps between digital natives and digital immigrants whilst remaining mindful of the conflicting demands between the overwhelming workload of teachers and the urgency to include cybersecurity content in lesson plans with samples provided.
