Abstract

This project was the result of a grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Middle school teachers (grades 6-8) in western Kansas participated in a workshop to expand their knowledge of wind energy, solar power, and the power grid which would enhance their students’ science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills. Integrating the Next Generation Science Standards Disciplinary Core Ideas of earth and space science, the Standards for Mathematical Practice, and the applications of science through the NASA Science Mission Directorate, teachers explored earth as a system and weather phenomena in order to teach their students about renewable energy
