Abstract

Education has been the bane of entrepreneurial and technological growth in successful global economies: leveraging human, material, infrastructural and digital resources to discover new frontiers and realise great feats. The need for global technological growth across nation is a main reason for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) concerning education and poverty reduction. This paper observed that despite the MDGs, technological growth and poverty indexes still place Nigeria at a great disadvantage. A large number of the people still live below the poverty line with sporadic annual increment in youth unemployment and long-lasting unpalatable consequences for individuals and the Country. This study observes that deficiencies in curriculum contents, inappropriate implementation strategies together with inadequate pre and post qualification trainings for teachers as the reasons for the high level of unemployment. The paper discusses the need for curriculum review and upgrade in pedagogies to be technology compliant for effective teaching and stimulation of creative instincts and entrepreneurship learning. The paper argues that an evolving educational policy devoid of contemporary knowledge training for knowledge acquisition in entrepreneurial/technological development cannot achieve a nexus between exploitable strengths and structures that would lead to employment, poverty reduction and sustainable living. It suggests curriculum review that would include global best practices, capacity building for teachers in the use of educational technology gadgets to achieve responsiveness to new and diverse perspectives of innovations. The paper recommends that educational technology and aspect of e-learning be made compulsory for curriculum implementers and be taught with field oriented and practical approaches while its finance is handled following a tripartite agreement between government, parents and good spirited individuals.
