Abstract

This paper presents a research project in which is beign carried out a contrasting analysis of the training and job performance of early childhood and primary education teachers and the exercise of their professional competences. This is a crucial issue in the evaluation and improvement of both the training programmes of teachers at these stages and their professional insertion, allowing the identification of the best educational practices and the pedagogical models and orientations on which these practices are based. The analysis of the quality of teacher training and their professional competence is one of the fundamental elements for ascertaining the degree of educational, social, scientific and economic development – in accordance with the current context of educational models, and is also one of the necessary vehicles for identifying the strengths and weaknesses of these models and their pedagogical orientations. All this is highlighted in the most recent political and strategic documents in Spain and in the international context (reports of the Spanish State School Council, the OECD, the World Bank and the EURIDYCE network).
