Abstract

Contemporary supply chains are typically complex and technologically driven and are in a constant state of evolution. It is crucial to regularly evaluate and develop the managerial skillsets required by the supply chain industry. The purpose of this paper is to assess student’s perceptions of the supply chain skills they believe are required by industry, their employment prospects following qualification and to determine whether these perceptions have changed over the past 10 years. The study followed a quantitative research design to determine the required skill set within the logistics and supply chain industry. The empirical data was collected through two self-administered online surveys, conducted in 2013 and 2022, providing 1707 and 742 responses respectively. The results reflect that there are considerable differences between the perceptions and expectations of the students over the period under review. Students believe that they do not need as much education or experience as they did in previous years. Significant changes in the perceived skillsets required by industry were observed in students in industry, vocational and academic programmes.
