Abstract

Modern hardware security modules (HSMs) rely on approved techniques for random bit generation. Developments in quantum random number generators (QRNGs) now support efficient integration of external entropy sources to provide additional features for HSM customers. In this industry case study, we report various pathways to integration of a QRNG solution with a certified HSM. We present a preliminary assessment of the benefits contributed by the integration and conclude by identifying areas for future technical evaluation.
