Abstract

In the era of rapid climate change, the efficient sharing and utilization of climate data are paramount to fostering global understanding and action. The “Creative Commons Recommended Best Practices for Better Sharing of Climate Data” aims to address the challenges and opportunities in this domain. This presentation will explore the framework and recommendations provided by Creative Commons, emphasizing the importance of setting legaland licensing terms and using metadata values that center attribution, in order to maximize the accessibility, interoperability, and reusability of climate data worldwide. The presentation aims to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of the benefits and implementation strategies of Creative Commons licenses for climate data. By adopting these best practices, the global community can significantly advance climate research and action, ensuring that data-driven insights lead to meaningful environmental impact. This presentation is designed for data and research managers with the authority to influence licensing decisions, platform user experiences, and/or data sharing/use policies. It might also be of interest for researchers, policymakers, and anyone involved in the climate data ecosystem. Attendees will leave with practical knowledge and tools to improve the sharing and application of climate data, ultimately contributing to global efforts in combating climate change.
