Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of injury prevention education program (IPEP) on the awareness of injury prevention measures among junior male soccer players. The participants (age = 13.34±0.47 years) were assigned randomly into experimental (EXP, n=25) or control (CON, n=25) groups. The EXP participated in the IPEP conducted 3-day/week for 12-week. The CON continued training as usual. A questionnaire containing 35-item regarding awareness of injury prevention strategies and practices was administered at baseline and post-intervention. The independent t-test results for comparisons between EXP and CON groups showed that awareness of injury prevention strategies and awareness of injury prevention practices were significantly different with p < 0.01. The paired t-test analysis for the EXP group revealed a significant positive increase in the mean for the two components (All, p < 0.01). Meanwhile, the CON group did not show any significant changes in any variables (All, p > 0.05). It is concluded that an education program containing injury prevention measures may be effective in increasing the injury prevention awareness among junior soccer players.
