Abstract

This study reports the results of an investigation into the use of project-based learning (PBL) in a Probability and Statistics course at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU). The project was implemented in the spring of 2022 and the fall of 2022 to determine the effectiveness of the PBL approach compared to the traditional teaching of the Probability & Statistics course. Out of all the seven sections taught in the spring and fall of 2022, one of the three sections in spring and two of the four sections taught in the fall were selected to implement the PBL approach. Based on the outcomes obtained, students who experienced the PBL approach displayed significantly enhanced exam performance in post-tests and exams compared to the control group. Furthermore, according to the post-survey, more than 90% of students stated that their learning experience with PBL was good or excellent.
