Personality Types of RIASEC Theory Among Students’ Choice of Disciplines in Education
The RIASEC Theory, based on the Holland Model, has been used extensively in planning future careers. However, few studies have investigated whether the six personality types in RIASEC theory can affect students’ choice of disciplines and whether they are compatible. The present study investigated and discussed whether the six RIASEC personality types (Realistic, Investigate, Artist, Social, Enterprising and Conventional, respectively) and the five disciplines (Science, Business, Social Science, Design and Language and culture) have a mutual effect, based on the theory that the different personality types in the RIASEC Theory match the disciplines chosen, as suggested by the career mapping from the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Master booklet. The results showed that the regression model cannot be established in the current study. Therefore, the above six personality types could not affect students’ choice of disciplines. Results from the present study will also help inform the future research of RIASEC Theory in the educational field.
